17 Ways Consumers Are Changing

I do hope this trend of buying less, thinking small, cherishing what we have, sticks with us if/when the economy rebounds. I live in an area of McMansions and ostentatious consumerism that has long been a thorn in my side. I disagree with people who say "Well, if you don't buy things and spend money, how will we ever recover??" We were living in a bubble, folks, it's time to wake up!!

'MARKETING' = INSTITUTIONALIZED LYING. 'Entertainment' like movies in theatres or DVDs, concerts, sports events, pay-per-view, HBO: also a complete ripoff. Drug companies are thieves.

Also drop cable and TIVO subscriptions.

Why pay twice with a cable subscription to watch commericals which are broadcast free and clear?

Is cable really news or just your emotions being taken advantage of?

Why pay three times by adding a TIVO subscription over a cable or sattelite subscription? On top of that advertisiers monitor your every click of the remote.

Kick me if I'm stupid people!

Instead get the DISH PAL DVR which has two built in off-the-air tuners. Then put a $50 antenna in your attic. Now TV is "free" as it used to be.

I concentrated on paying off everything back in the late 1990's and now I'm debt free. No car payments, no house mortgage, no credit card bills. Cash buying only. It's amazing when all of your paychecks go into an account how fast it builds up. Other than a major purchase like a house, everything is cash, including cars. The banks get 0% interest from me, but then the banks are paying .005% interest so I have been investing in stocks that pay dividends. Strange, but I like like lving like no one else. I also listen to www.Daveramsey.com

If' it's highly advertised, I WILL NOT BUY IT. Tired of Gecko and caveman nonsense thrust in your ears for something as serious as car insurance? We ought to be. Tired of hearing the Free Credit Report.com jingles? Tired of seeing all drug prices go up while they rattle on 24 hours a day for everything from E.D. to allergies to Sally Fields' alleged bone loss?
