10 Companies Back From the Brink

Rest assured, it is not only recent high-school grads who lack basic spelling, punctuation, capitalization and grammar skills. I've dealt with numerous CEO's, VP's and department supervisors whose writing skills were positively atrocious.

We are slowly devolving into a nation of text messaging morons. I am eerily reminded of Orwell's "Newspeak."

we shud all weep 4 the future

You sir are clearly too dense to manage the delicate intra-store politics associated with a "team leader" role at Lowes. (this is the end)

Reading the comment below entitled Circuit City I wonder how can children go to school , pass their courses, and come out not able to write, speak or construct a paragraph. It speaks volumes about our school system...

James Rucker of AZ - James this is also meant as constructive criticism. I mean nothing negative or mean by it and I say this with respect. There is not one period in the writing, not one capitol letter for any names, places, or anything that should be capitalized. This is not your fault no doubt, but merely a circumstance of not being taught in school and being passed on and on to the next level and class.

It would really help you, if you could take a comprehensive grammar, writing and composition course at a local County College or night classes. It will greatly advance your employment places, career and job description with an employer.

Again I don't mean this in a nasty way, but merely as an improvement to your skills to further you in life and in employment. This way you will not be limited to companies and the conditions that you describe.

LONGEST RUN-ON SENTENCE I HAVE EVER SEEN; Do you realize that you wrote a five paragraph comment and didn't use a single period to end a sentence (except at the end)? If you want to appear to have any management skills, you make a really bad first impression when you don't appear to know how to write. I am NOT trying to be cruel, this is constructive criticism. Our society still has (or at least should have) standards that managers in any field should have the basic communications skills. One of the is WRITING. So I hope you take this the right way and consider this friendly advice. Peace.

It started when I worked in the appliances and kitchen cabinet departments at the lowes in arizona store #1117 I was the team leader I had 4 employes working under me John,Steve,Abu,Mark and a department manager above me who was the lazyest person I have ever seen he would never help me supervise the 4 employes that were under me I ran the both departments by my self I could not get any of the 4 employes to do anything I would write work lists for them to do and they throw them away I went to every manager in the store and asked for help on the matter and they said to get you manager to displine them he was to lazy to do anything there was a lot of work that was not getting done so I started doing all of it myself like when a load of counter top would come in I would put all of them away by myself which is not easy to do its a 2 or 3 person job but I did it myself and when a 10 or more pallets of kitchen cabinets would come in every 2 weeks I would also put them away by myself and I did many other almost impossible jobs by myself and after about a year and a half I started have pains in my leggs, arms, back and many other places so I once again ask for help by this time a new store manager Domnic had take over the store and I ask him for help and the same thing get you department manager to help which was a lost cause then another manager Denise Bile transfered back to the lowes and I told her about the issue and asked her for help but what happened was I was replaced by another employee that wanted to transfer to another lowes store that was closer to his home and they gave him a raise to get him to stay at that location and he also lived with one of the 4 employees and they moved me over to his department and told me that if I wanted to continue to work there I had to go part time and they cut my pay by $1.75 and hour which was all my raises that I had recieved since I had started lowes and I also lost my insurance this is after I busted my butt for over a year for Lowes and because of what they did to me I got very upset and I had a lot of trouble sleeping I could ot eat and I lost alot of weight and all the pains that I was having before got really bad I hurt all over I could not think or function like I use to and they started treating like I was faking and that I trying to get out of doing my job and because I didnt have insurance and being part time my finances were in the toilet and to top it off I could not get part time insurance because it was past the inrollment time so I had suffer and put up with alot of crap that they putting me through the manager Denise would go to the break room while I am on break and ask me why I am taking a break when there are customer needing help so I would go out to the sales floor and there would be no customers to help she use to make life miserable there were 4 managers that would hassel me all the time while I worked there I would get write up for anything they could away with.(this is not the end)

I double checked to be sure this was a 2010 message. As a resident of CC's headquarters, that was a BADDDD move. They had suffered a slow death and rightly so...you get what you give. While inviting in appearance to shoppers, the undertone of greed and unfair or mistreatment of employees was almost talk of the town. Miss them physically, but not as a company. They has always been out for the $$$ on everything they were involved in. Fortunate for them CarMax got off the ground first. Hopefully people are more pleased than not with the ethics and quality of service. Best Buy came into town and while it seems to be a twin of Circuit City, they are surviving...although I don't shop there.

Beware of who repairs for you and costs vs. replacement. The electronics of today are sometimes not worth repair, there's always something newer and better, almost cheaper than repair...on the regular consumer level...even the old names Sansui, Onkyo, etc. are not what they were in price.

Desi of VA 10:14AM June 23, 2010

An if that is not a fact, what is it?. I have seen friends, neighbors, repair persons who over charge for their services and at the end wind up with empty hands.

It will happen to General Motors or the corner deli and I hope it happens to Direct TV, because they give you so little for the amount of money they charge.

quitecua of FL 5:44AM June 05, 2010

D. Dunn you apparently did not do your homework before you asked them to repair your stero. Yea, being from CA I guess you were being green so you gave Circuit City your green. Why would you expect them to give you your money back. You should have asked the cost first. Then what happen to your loyality when you checked to see how much a new one cost. Perhaps this particular stero was your favority, you could not just toss it aside. Just like my crappy Nokia cell phone. The new one is not even close to the new replacement and I did not compare features, I assumed what I was getting was as good or better. Not so and you know what they say about "assume". It makes an ASS of U and ME.

Jerry 11:48PM June 03, 2010

I'd been a loyal long-time customer and thought highly of Circuit City. When I saw them becoming a statistic of tanking economy, I thought maybe someone else would jump in with a rescue boat, as was case of many others sinking ships. So, when I needed my stereo that I'd purchased there a number of years ago, attempting to do my part also for environment, not add another dumped stereo to land fill, I sent it off to them for repair. I was charged $175.00 for minimally repaired stereo, when I could off purchased a new one from Target for $75.00 cheaper. Any one know how go about problem solve my delemma? Tried contact Better Busiess Bureau, but that not successful either. Just flush the $175.00. I know many others lost larger amounts than I did, but it's just frustrating. Thanks

what is going on with the employee owned airline? why is it not doing well? why are so many people being laid off and so many people have lost their years of working their and other important things they have worked hard for for years?
