Why the Social Security Freeze Is Fair

I'm sick and tired of Congress getting fat raises. I'd like to see them survive on what the average Federal Gov't workers receives who is not a GS-14 rating. I'm under the old retirement system, so I hope I don't get screwed when I retire, have 10 years to go.

Maybe the price of food hasn't gone up much but the size of the can has gone down thus we are getting less for the same price. Costs more to get the same amount !!

I agree with Larson of CA. The retired working man does not deserve more SS but the Politickans vote theirselves raises. I wonder why we distrust them.

This Rick Newman must be a congressional hack! So, if SS freeze is fair, where does that put the raise the Congress voted for themselves? Of course he doesn't address that - freeze the elderly and pay Congress? What with Congress members enjoying a far better retirement then us peasant retirees?!! Oh, I know: "Let 'em eat cake!"

J. Larson of CA 2:07PM November 09, 2010

way did you not save for your retirement? now you want the goverment to tak care of you.

with health costs going up for those of us. medicare drugs doctors visits it cost us more this year than last year but that doesnt count because we dont matter to them. giving us 250 dollars is rediculous as a lump sum. just give us the raise like congress gets every year. also it looks like we wont get the raise next year ether but medical costs go up again so we have to work with even less money to live on and i do mean live on. some of us still have morgages and other expenses like car insurance electric and water those go up but we still get no help

Retiree said: "Supplement insurance has increased 100%, as has Medicare Part A insurance." How? Part A is free and always has been. What increase is that?

Uncle Willy of FL 9:41AM November 05, 2010

Just received my new Medicare Supplement rate for next year, a 12% increase. Over the past ten years, Supplement insurance has increased 100%, as has Medicare Part A insurance. Drug costs and premiums continue to go up. Seems to me that medical costs for seniors outpace any other costs they are faced with.

GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR -SS.I LOVE THIS COUNTRY BUT I HATE THE PEOPLE THAT RUN IT. FOR EXAMPLE.

THEY GIVE OUT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO BAIL OUT CAR COMPANIES, WALL STREET,AIRLINES AND BANKS.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO THAT BIG THREE% EACH YEAR.IT'S TERRIBLE HOW THIS COUNTRY TREATS IT'S SENIOR CITIZENS. I DON'T THINK A LOUSY 3% RAISE IS GOING TO BREAK THE GOVERMENTS BACK. OH YES AND DON'T FORGET THOSE CONGRESS MAN WHO JUST GAVE THEMSELVES ANOTHER RAISE.

AIN'T THIS A GREAT COUNTRY. GOD BLESS AMERICA

As anyone who knows investing realizes, money invested and compounded over time is the best way to have enough for retirement. The money I invested over 52 years would have equalled about 1.25 million by now, even with the bad times cyclically in the past. Social security is not a freebie or welfare. It is a payback of the money we invested into it over a half-century or more. In order for me to break even with what I put in and would have made in the general investment world, I'll have to live to 96. Hope I make it.
