"The irony is startling. The $800 billion stimulus program Obama championed in 2009 turned into a political albatross for Democrats, with many voters feeling (mistakenly) "

Thank you for informing me of my mistake for "feeling" the way I do about wasteful spending and greed.

"The President is finally doing what politicians should be doing. Putting the interests of the people in the United States is what EVERY politician in Congress has failed miserably in doing. "

So Paul,

EVERY congressman and senator had nothing to do with any of the laws, it was all the President right? And the President has NEVER played partisan politics...right?

"Finally, the next politician who threatens to filibuster should be tarred and feathered"

So you advocate all of the elected congress to simply sign off and defer to the sitting president regardless of personal belief or what his/her constituency wants? Next will you tell us why you think President Obama should be made dictator and King.

Most are not simple minded enough to agree...Thank God.

"The $800 billion stimulus program Obama championed in 2009 turned into a political albatross for Democrats, with many voters feeling (mistakenly) that it drained the Treasury while doing nothing for the economy."

Look Rick, it is only some of the media hype types who say that the stimulus "did nothing" for the economy. That statement puts you in that category. The real world argument is not whether it did anything, it is whether it did enough. So what is enough? Well enough is more than some other program that spent the same amount of money. So the argument is that a different $800B stimulus plan would have been much, much, much, better than the one that we got. Of course it did something, just not enough.

This is NOT a $900 billion stimulus package. The part that relates to extending the current tax rates is NOT STIMULUS. It is simply keeping tax rates where they are and will not stimulate anything. I think that is about $500B, so the stimulus is only about $400B. Don't get me wrong, that is a good thing right now but to call the whole thing stimulus is just a lie.

While I agree with Paul's sentiment about the tax rates for the wealthy, I disagree about the filibuster. It is true that the Repubs are wrong about the wealthy tax rates but the Dems are wrong about everything else economic. Without the filibuster over the last two years, we would now be saddled with a lot more misguided economic policies and the economy would be even worse.

Well, well, the conservative party is showing its colors and people won't forget.

Good post Paul.

Right ON! Paul. I totally agree. When will people wake up and see what is really true.

The President is finally doing what politicians should be doing. Putting the interests of the people in the United States is what EVERY politician in Congress has failed miserably in doing. President Obama was presented with a volatile time sensitive situation and executed a reasonable response, based not on partisian politics but with welfare of the majority of people in mind. Factually, the Republican Party was willing to let millions of family suffer if the 2% of the richest did not receive the tax break which they will hardly notice. Think about about how many super wealthy taxpayers would lose their homes or go hungry without the tax break. Now think about the unemployed. It is time to start approaching these very dire problems by seeking solutions TOGETHER without seeing each item through the lense of partisian politics. Finally, the next politician who threatens to filibuster should be tarred and feathered in the well of the Chamber of the house.Happy Holidays!
