I'm a baby boomer and was raised with great morals of God, Family and being a faithful employee. Where are all the mom & pop businesses? What happened to the 5 & dime stores?

The jobs went overseas for cheap wages and left Americans sitting in the dark with high cost of living, if you have a nice car/truck it cost and arm & leg to put gas in the tank. If you have been at the same job for 20+or 30+ years and were looking to retire early (forget it). I go to work every day and give my employer 100% for a days wages but at the end of the week I feel like I owe my employer money because it cost so much more in clothing, eating out for lunch or brown bagging it still cost too much, transportation (no available transit in my town), I drive 1 hr each way to and from work because I relocated and downsized my home to save. I sold my home and now live in a mobile home that is paid for I defer as much as possible to my 401 (that did not happen until 1999) at the age of 48 so I will not have that many years to contribute and what I have been able to invest all went south when the economy fell in 2001 after the World Trade Center was terorized on Sept. 11th. the downturn has not let up and I blame congress, senators and local government that controls inflation and not restoring industries that had to send our jobs overseas in order to stay in business.

Something has got to give or I will be working until the day I die and for what? Watching America the land that I love go down the drain for selling out it's country to the big boys and girls in Washington can pass a healthcare bill that THEY will not have to use, line their pockets with gold while we sit back and watch our savings, our children & grandchildren's future go down the drain.

Wake up America, Obama called for change and many of you voted him into office, we are now paying for your mistakes...vote this person out of office, get Joe or Josephine Somebody in that cares less about making their own fortune and wants to put America back to work, pay your taxes and bye American products, speak english (our country's language) and live the the American dream once again.

God Bless America,

Completely agree with Mr. Monus. Let our elected representatives have to have the same crumbs we commoners have with respect to medical, and other aspects of our common life -- such as subjection to TSA screening rather than strolling through at Dulles like royality, I do think things would change for the better. We have a fine crop of elected officials, the best money can buy!

1.) Voting is not a right...it is a previlege. Voting for a new party? The parties are all the same...corrupt and corporate driven...even a blind man can see that is the case.

2.) Our politicians care more about business than they do the American people.

3.) We are not at war with anybody...Government 101..Congress never issued a declaration of war. So our children are dying for what reason? WMDs? And one more point: 'Wars' which are based on religious beliefs can never be won without exterminating all the believers.

4.) The over 78 million babyboomers are going to be in for a big surprize...again we will have a blatant case of the "have baby-boomers" vs. the "have-not baby-boomers". I worked all my life to save and what did 2007 - 2009 do for me...robbed me of half of my savings/investment...but Congress and other politcal figures didn't miss a beat on their raises and benefits at my expense. Let them retire on Medicare and Social Security. (Bet it would get fix then!)

America is in horrible shape (morally, socially, economically, physically) and people are starting to say "things are getting better"....then why is gasoline expected to reach $4 by the summer?

So much more to say but I will get off my soapbox. Hope you all have a great year...ANYWAY....INSPITE OF OUR LEADERS!!

When I vote,I clean house. Regardless 0f party, I vote all incumbants out. Give them a little taste of what its like to have a job only a few years

First of all, most people I talk to that see the same thing I see (government catering to corporate America),dont even vote and thats a shame. Voting is probably one of the only rights I have left. So I have developed my own personal remedy which really makes me feel good when I do it.

ever looked at everything you buy, what's made in America anymore?

Look at the jobs that would create....

Although I was born in 1977, I collect items made in the earlier years. Furniture, now all u get is press wood from over seas. Look at all of your electronics, can you find any made in the USA?! We use to make our own, use our own because of the quality and now we're rebuying junk from other countries. We, as Americans need to remember cheaper labor equals cheaper made products with no jobs for us!!! The owners of companies across this "great" nation have sold out for cheaper labor and sent our jobs elsewhere!!! Wonder IF these big time company owners feel responsible for some of the unemployment?...

The author just wanted attention. He got some.

1 This depression isn't over. Washington wants us to think it;s over. New jobs? Wages?, Industries?, seen any? I haven't.

2 Bailouts for stock traders, banks, and fat cats save billions. For Them. It took an extended session to pass a tax bill for us (I say us. Included are the very wealthy who again got a big slice). Remember how fast Washington responded to the bank crisis. yet, they have done nothing to prevent another crises, and have actually made more loop holes for the stock swindlers and banks to take advantage of (intentionally).

3 Gas Prices....There it is again. I said it. Why for the love of God is prices over $3.00 a gallon? Can we afford it? No. Have we done anything, any changes to make this crawl up from $1.80 two years ago? NO! Want to do something for the common man and get this country rolling? NO! Tell 'ya anyway. Limit profits on the oil companies that are raking in billions in the largest profits they have ever made. EVER! and lower prices where people like me can actually get to work without spending 1/3 of my wages on damn gas!

See anything here you don't agree with? Look it up. I got to log off now. I got to get ready to drive to work.

How dumb do you think we are? Inflation is already up. A can of tuna cost 33 cents 3 years ago now its 50 cents. Same for mac and cheese. A loaf of bread was 70 some cents and now is over a dollar. I could get socks in a 6 pack for $5 now its almost $9. No Inflation my patootie!

Capitol Hill is sitting pretty. They fat pockets and insurance, they are not worried about the rest of America. America will never be a prosperous country again until furniture factories and knitting mills are brought back to this country. You need blue collar work to survive. Opening up gas stations on the corners and new small business who can employ maybe five to 10 people if that many is not going to keep this country going. When you have factories it trickles down. People need nails, screws, thread, material, people to push the paper work, etc. America (at least the people who can make a difference and won't) will never wake up or better yet they tend to turn toward keeping their own pockets full.
