How the Facebook Economy Trumps the Real One

Instead of making broad generalizations about an unscientific correlation to influence readers, why not look at possible reasons for the similaries between FB and unemployment. Did you ever think that people are realizing the importance of networking in this poor economy? If you don't have a FB, LinkedIn, and Twitter account, you are out of sight and mind to many.

Did you ever think that people are now realizing the importance of family when so many other parts of their lives are falling apart? Facebook offers a FREE way to stay in touch with relatives who were once thought to be too far away and costly to talk with.

About those games that are claimed to be consuming Americans' time instead of looking for a job, did you ever think that people are depressed and bored out of their minds, not getting responses from the bazillion jobs they have applied to, and are looking, again, for a FREE way of staying sane?

Did you ever think Writer?

In the area where i live, "the real world", we're down to walmarts, gas stations, and retail..there have been over 5 factories closed. that's estimated around 2,000 people without employment, not on unemployment. no one wants to bring in new industry because the county will lose it's poverty grant! so as far as facebook, i'll do and use every part of it i can instead of doing without!!

Manking has an inherant need to feel that they belong to something. Something bigger than themselves. In this time of electronic isolation, we are more lonely and segregated from our fellow man than ever before. While one is living in this "New World" he or she will reach out to find contact in ant way possible, be it electronic or otherwise.

The easiest way to stay connected is electonically because it gives the user the option to just turn it off. It's "SAFE" If a person has a fear in any way shape or form, he or she can simply avoid that that causes the particular fear.

It is the reason why our children are destined to be a generation of "Whimps"

They live in an artificial world that they tailor make to their own emotional needs. They no longer are communicating with other human beings on a real world level.

We are our own worst enemies. We will be the means to our own ends due to our own insecurities and fears.

What the hell does failing our children have to do with this? lol!

Way to stick to the topic. *thumbs up* People like you, that always need to make SOME point (even if it's not relevant) are annoying.

Good day

I like myspace better. People r unemployed or underemployed they have nothing else to do but send applications, resumes, and try to network on these search engines. And they make it hard to follow up on the information you gave them about yourself. its terrible!

Another way for employee's to waste the dat away. While being less productive. What is the point of Facebook. Just so you can know everything that everyone is doing all the time, I watched a woman the other night ignore her child for a good 15mins while eating at McDonalds I could see over her shoulder the whole time she was using Facebook, instead of interacting with her child. We as adults have failed our children..

Not sure that facebook is the cause for unemployment or even the reason people go into fantasy land playing games. Most people struggle too look for jobs goto job fairs, interviews etc etc.But after awhile people give up on trying too fight the system of corrupt politicians that are in bed with the bankers that keep ripping off the American people everyday. If (We The People) were able to get a blank check from our Goverment we all would not be unemployed. We would be able to invest also and start companies up.But now that the Politicians the bankers and wall street do what ever they want with our money, they are the ones who are too blame for this mess period.Get the bankers and wallstreet out of our pocket books and make all politicians accountable for there actions and we would a great Nation again.
