I love your in-depth views on "Fearing China". As a Chinese myself, I feel he describes correctly what China is doing to herself. Over many centuries, China had been ruled by many different dynasties and if my history lesson was good, China never once invaded her neighboring country. Internal power struggle within China pretty much painted the whole picture of history of rising power of China. Yes, China is still learning lots of technologies from the west as she tries to progress itself towards self-efficiency. China needs to be able to feed her own people first and foremost before anything else. This tradition has been rooted in many Chinese families throughout many centuries. Outside world affairs seem secondary importance to most Chinese leaders as far as I know.

China is developing very fast and its weapons are multiplying, well and good but they have not used them in real warfare which means they are untested. The personel have no experience fighting wars. How would China compare itself with the Americans who have tested weapons, experienced personel and experienced offiocers of the armed forces.

China only remains 5, 10, 15 or 30 years behind America in military technology if they keep trying to develop weapons systems like stealth fighters that America started on 30 years before them etc. China will catch up in 3 years if they change their paradigm completely and pusue weapons America does not have: Think how far behind China America is on bullet trains for example to understand this. Then all of a sudden, we will be playing catchup if they have whole series of weapons systems we do not have. They can do this because with their focus on education and ambitious ways and with possibly more PhD holders than we have graduates and GED holders (possibly, with 2 billion people ... you can do a lot!!) So folks, I do not want to be more specific here in a way that endangers America by giving them more ideas but trust me, they can catch up before the bunch of us can say Jack!! Again, remember, today there are more Chinese on internet than there are people in America. We need to start building up on human resources, stop jailing young blacks who can be new Obamas, Michael Jordans, Will Smiths; bring in billions in foreign exchange to America. Stop abortion. Help our people. Embrace immigration again: that is why America became America in the first place and is not Britain or France!! Use immigrant energy, numbers, market power, brains and blessings!!

FIRST OF, THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET IN CHINA THAN THERE ARE HUMAN BEINGS IN AMERICA, INCLUDING IMMIGRANTS AND PRISONERS!!!
If you travel most of the real world outside America and Europe, you will see Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, 50 Cent, James Bond, Microsoft, Gucci, Ralph Lauren,Rolex, etc etc DVDs, Videos, Movies, CDs, software, toys, suits, watches,dresses, luggage, handbags, sunglasses... you just name whatever; illegally made by Chinese pirates under supervision of Chinese communist economic soldiers and robbing America of intellectual capital and foreign exchange and thus sabotaging and destroying the U.S. economy in the most blatant case of fraud, 419, theft, wealth transfer ever.
Worse, while 3 old ladies with placards and a good lawyer can shut down an erring/ criminal American company over a liability matter, your entire family can be exterminated by a well connected Chinese manufacturer and you cannot get a permit to protest. You will be locked up in a dungeon and forced to work 18 hour days making cheap inferior export goods without pay.
Workers cannot organize and demonstrate for rights and conditions: they will get locked up in labor sweatshop dungeons.
Forget about the currency manipulation, goods that do not plain work or break down after weeks of use, if even.
There are no rights for minimum wage and speech or respect for religious rights/ observances & mandates in the work place.
The most incredible is that you have a nation that forces you to manufacture and design etc in their country to sell there and will not license or permit most actions of businesses, have arbitrary bans and restrictions that THEY ARE NOT SUBJECTED TO IN OTHER PEOPLE'S COUNTRIES. They put you through so many hoops and restrictions before you can even do anything there at all.
It cavorts with criminal regimes of whatever stripe like North Korea, Iran, etc.
I SAY FREE TRADE MUST BE BASED ON 100% RECIPROCAL RULES OTHERWISE AMERICA WILL BE DESTROYED. CHINA IS WAGING AN ECONOMIC WAR THAT WILL ULTIMATELY RESULT IN THE SABOTAGE OF THE GLOBAL/AMERICAN ECONOMY AND POSSIBLY IT'S DESTRUCTION IF NOT REINED IN NOW.
I also say America better wake up and stop playing the fool! America may not be perfect but at least you know the U.S. army will not roll tanks into cities to crush if necessary tens of thousands of it's own citizens protesting. Imagine what such a communist party will do to an enemy if able to crush such an enemy.
China's wealth today is America's poverty and loss. China's rise is why America is hurting. The whole talk of market expansion is ridiculous if your new market is built because you destroyed your old base and people.
The idea of weakening American dollar to promote exports is like selling your million dollar home for $200k to facilitate selling it. YOU NEVER DEVALUE YOUE ANYTHING YOU OWN!!!

I am so tired of hearing that China is 20 to 30 years behind ours in the area of military power!!... They are in some areas, BUT not the ones that are of significance!! FACT !! ...THey only need to negate the few areas that we are ahead to have a e3qual military force that also ioncludes the World's largets standing army of close to 3 Million men.
Remember 4-5 years ago they blew up an old satellite with a rocket? Remember 4 years ago they developed what was named the "Sizzler missile". A sea to sea or ground to sea missile that moves at MACH 3, while randomly zig-zagging as it skimmed the surface of the OCean. Well, you see they've DEVELOPED A FAR, FAR BETTER MISSLE THAT MOVES AT MACH 10 AND IS DESISGNED TO TAKE OUT AIRCDRAFT CARRIERS. Who depends on Satellitess and Aircraft Cariiers above all.. AMERICA... needs to have those satellites to see aggresive movement, coordinate counter moves and use the GPS capabilities to fire many of our smart bombs, that addresses the satellite test, Now as for the early anti- aircraft carrier missile, Bill Gates shut down funding to the navy until we could figure how to stop the MACH 3 sizzler missle..Finally the Aegis system was able to handle that. WE DO NOT have the capability to take out the recently put into new and improved missle. THese are the new MACH 10 missiles that will zig-Zag at 20 feet over the ocean directly at an aircraft carrier. Yes, there is other ships in the convoy but it is stated that China will launch several of these missiles at once and that equates to a lost aircraft carrier and 6000 to 7000 naval personnel. Thus taking are :"Blue Sea capability" away from us. There goes the 2 main ways of projecting power overseasa, thus allowing China to have time to do whatever it want o Taiwan and many other Islands that are disputed between China and Japan.
Do you thing that the 2 most important iyems that will only cause the biggest theart to there future plans happens to be aimed at USA primary ways of defense.
Therefore forget 20-30 years look at 10 to 15 at most.
