I'm looking at you Bob Burnham.

How are all those Democrat controlled states doing? CA, NJ, MI, IL... Yeah the the Republicans are to blame for everything. I wonder Bob if you are so outraged by Obama bypassing congress and invading Libya? Not closing Guantanamo? Extending the Patriot Act? Trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see? I suppose you are okay with all of that too.

Budget Debate is Class Warfare Destroying America

“monumentally arrogant and massively irresponsible”

“The failure of the US in managing its financial health, the growing deficit and the widening class warfare lies with the complete failure of our political leaders. Continued behavior like the present activity will destroy this country…greed and hate prevail. When threats start the budget process that is a damaging failure. When ordinary people have no money or jobs and the rich simply get richer and pay little taxes, that is a failure. When large corporations pay no taxes, that is a failure. When the government wants to take away from the ordinary citizen, that is a failure. Congress must accept that the sacred cow is medicare and medicaid. It is NOT the defense budget and other government welfare for the wealthy. We have either ten or eleven carrier fleets alone.. No other country in the world even has one carrier fleet. We have somewhere close to one thousand military bases around the world and some of them are complete with movie theaters, quick food places, and other niceties. A few are so large they even have their own bus routes. Former Generals and Admirals pick up hefty pensions along with the huge amounts of money they make working as consultants for the Defense Industry. If they make hundreds of thousands of dollars and more in consultant fees, then why do they need their hefty pensions? Please don't add insult to injury by acting patriotic. Another of the sacred cows is subsidies to large Corporations such as Agribusiness and Oil, and Coal. Do they really need federal money when they make such huge profits? If they do then they need some education in business management. Then of course there is the relatively low taxes on the wealthy. The wealthy in this country whine and moan and groan like a bunch of old women gossiping about how they are getting cheated by the government. It is disgustingly shameful and yet they feel no shame at complaining and complaining incessantly while they live in mansions replete with servants and top shelf everything. Their EGOs are more important than their fellow man. America will never get out of this economic situation without addressing these issues squarely and stop trying to put the blame and burden on the old, the infirm, and those who work hard for a living”.

One simple accurate understanding of a country and its financial predicament should be highlighted to all U S. citizens.

The deep financial bind that Greece is in comes from the implementation of the same policies that the present GOP is "demanding".

They toppled as before and they are trying to do it again.

Review the last ten years of Greece history!!!

but requires periodic culling of the herd. Are you willing to tolerate a country that periodically culls dissenters? Perhaps if you aren't in this round of culling, but sooner or later there will be a Republican in the White House. Will you find dicta-government to be so wonderful when it is the other party doing the dictating?

The real question is California or Texas.

I live in Los Angeles, and frankly, LA is one of the dirtiest, most un-equal cities in the nation. Nearly all of the real growing jobs here are in the grey market: they are vibrant because they simply ignore all the CA laws and regulations and deal only in cash, but about the biggest scale you can do that is food trucks, so it's limited to the very low end of the jobs. if you want to stat anything bigger than a bootleg restaurant, you need enough clout to lobby Sacramento, which is a freaking big jump from selling produce off of your truck. You may be making some awesome cheese, but you need at least two lawyers on retainer to put it on a store shelf.

It is a crippling way of doing business.

Contrast that to Texas, where it only takes a couple of months to get through the permits needed to build a restaurant, and it did not take long for a large number of the places displaced by Katrina to set up shop in downtown Houston. Some thrived, some didn't, but now Houston's got a Creole district, which is awesome. To get the same permits in Los Angeles takes over two years. If you want to start eats here, you do it out of a grey market food truck.

Are you for real? Is your ilk still actually trumpeting and selling the snail-oil that tanked the US economy? Are you that obtuse to ignore that the various other industrialized nations that have totally skirted and avoided this GOP and TEAnutter induced GFC both have regulation and Keynesian economics. It's why they have cutting-edge infrastructure and cities to die for; while we have decaying, rusted, rubbish that is typically the butt of jokes abroad.

The Greeks were notorious for the wealthy evading tax payments, which should ring a bell to anyone here not in denial. They also have the much adored GOP private health system. For the longest time, they even had one of the lowest gas taxes in Europe. All fine GOP policies. Just how Ireland many years ago was a fiscal trophy for the GOP, yet look at how that worked out.

The following require simple one word oriented answers.

Fiscally, who is significantly better off, China or CA?

Between China and CA, which of the two has close to $2 trillion USD in liquid cash reserves?

Between China and CA, which of the two could actually purchase Hollywood, your primitive adult industry, apple & Microsoft combined and in cash?

It's telling that this is in "money" yet says nothing about money whatsoever. There isn't a shred of substance in this article that couldn't be found in Pravda. The idea that everyone should always agree within a party is the most fascistic idea around. Everyone should always agree within a Political Party. We should all have a one party system so there will never be any infighting. What a grand idea!

USNews is chock full of Economic Illiteramouses who are so indoctrinated they're beyond stupid. A stupid person could understand that Greek economics is not the path to follow. But the know-nothing shills that lurk within the George Soros media machine don't want prosperity for the peasants, they want them to die. This suggestion that Paul Ryan's Medicare recipients won't receive their coverage in 10 years is about the stupidest thing I've read since the last time I picked up the NY Times. We're heading for total collapse in less time thanks to SSI and Medicare. I'm not going to live in a Mexican mud hut because a fascist government is following the Statist Model of Otto Von Bismark.

China has "Ghost Cities" yet the indoctrinated morons at USNews cannot report on it. China followed the Leftist, Keynesian, FDR style economics model for Housing. They now have enough empty units to house the entire population of the United States. Yet here's the morons at USNews still cheerleading for Big Government.

Rick Newman, when you're done blowing Paul Krugman never write another article on economics again. The world doesn't need to be a stupider place.

I am an independent and am in favor of the plan put forth by the Bipartisan Commission - lower the tax rates but get rid of a lot of the loopholes and giveaways. Seems to me that the Rep. and Dem.partisans think more about the short term than the long term - kinda of hard to find anybody to vote for...

Do you concervatives ever get tired of your nonstop whining and complaining. The editor of US News is Mort Zuckerman. Hardly a leftist. The incessant victim thinking of today's conservative movement is truly nauseating. For God sakes grow up!

Tod of IL 5:20PM May 25, 2011

This article is so insulting to conservatives and it doesn't accurately describe what is going on within the GOP. I am disappointed but not surprised it got past the U.S. News & World Report editors.
