You had an electric car out in '92. Where is it now? Above story about increasing the price on the Volt because you are doing research on a stereo system, is the stupidest thing I have heard said this week by the car industry. Last week you were asking for money to build things American won't buy. You need what you had in '92 on the market today. You need to sell it for the same price they are selling the Priuses for. If you can't accomplish this within the next year, you should get out of the car business. I spend no money on typewriters, buggy whips, or 20 year old technology tht I can buy from other countries. I have GM vehichles now but will punish you by not buying anymore if you don't change everything you are doing.
PS: How did a 5 year old cellphone company beat you to a plug in vehicle? DUMMY

I have been eagerly awaiting your electric plug in car since 1992. I have been driving foreign cars due to their excellent resale market value and daily dependability. My last GM vehicle was a 1972 Chevy Corvette. It made my heart sing just looking at it as well as going down the highway. To say that I am dissapointed in the comparisons of the Volt to Prius to FD3 is without saying. I am losing the excitement I felt back in 1992 when I was looking forward to your last electric car. The media is trying to make Americans feel like we are failing the American auto manufacturers. We did not fail you, you are again failing us. The current cost of $40,000.00 is too high when both the Chinese and Japanese are nipping at your heels with less expensive cars at better quality and resale value. Your research and development cost for a stereo system and other items are inexcusable. Put a basic radio in it for now. GET SOMETHING ON THE MARKET! FINE TUNE IT LATER. My patriotism has never been a question-my quality of life based on the best item at the best price will always be the question. The first Prius wasn't a glam machine and it cost too much then. It's gotten better and the price lower. Make the basic vehicle that plugs in. The next year you can improve it a little more then the next, etc.

I plan on buying the Volt when it comes out in 2010. In fact
I will give my name to a GM Dealer and try to get the very first one in my Town.

I am more concerned about the heating of the passenger space when the car is operated by battery. It will drain battery very quickly and ultimately gas engine will start with its poor gas mileage. 4oo pounds of discharge batteries, as an in-active payload, will reduce gas mileage even further.
I think Li ion batteries needs order of magnitude improvement before Volt type cars can compete with a regular gas driven car.

If Gm makes this technology more affordable and takes it on the chin a little they'll sale more cars. Future or next generation cars from them or other manufactures will become more affordable for them and the consumer. I'm sure they'll find a way to make money no matter what the case. However if nothing changes with gas powered cars being our main means of transportaion everyone loses and the car companies,the consumer and of course the environemnt. I really hope GM does the right thing makes it affordable it will help the economy the environemnt and everyones pocket books theirs included.

The price of this car is going out of range. I agree with Mike about getting money for the technology and then charging $40K.
Even the retired people that could afford it will be thinking twice before throwing that kind of money out. The biggest complaint would be the low sitting style. Being an older person it is harder and harder getting into and out of certain cars that set low. Myself I would look at a different hybrid that set up higher before I would buy this one. It is pretty to look at, but not practical for us older people!

sweet! so all that money i save at the pump will go straight into gm's pockets when i actually buy the car! awesome! and if i drive it for, oh, say, 35 years, it'll start to actually save me money over my current volkswagen! can't wait!
