I've heard Van Jones speak before and he does not support so-called "clean coal".

This administration has been amazing in its social and environmental commitments. Although I think Jones is on a very wrong path with his support of the oxymoronic concept of "clean coal," I am happy in general with his work. I sincerely hope that the Obama administration moves towards renewable energy sources and backs away from fossil fuels. I look forward to gender equity in pay in all industries and am happy if "green jobs" pave the way. I also hope to see impoverished people getting training and employment in the green industry.

Miracle #1: Electing a President committed to solving the climate crisis, the most urgent challenge of our time.

Miracle #2: Shifting the discourse from "jobs vs. the saving the entire planet" to "jobs that save the planet".

Miracle #3: The NYTimes Bestsellers list includes on it a book written by the man who has most boldly, authentically, and inspiringly brought forth the vision of a green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.

Miracle #4: This man is elevated to one of the most powerful posts in the country for implementing our President's climate, energy, & green jobs agenda.

Wow.

His vision, his well laid out framework for the green economy, socio-economic dimension, and resolute abhor for stop-gap measures will serve the administration, and this nation well in this role. VERY GOOD CALL!

By far, the person whom people familiar with the green jobs movement associate as the leader of that movement is Van Jones. He is a bold, articulate, brilliant, and compassionate visionary, and his appointment to this post is the greatest indicator yet that Obama is not messing around. Van Jones brings people together around common-sense, just, and sustainable approaches to making a difference in the world, and his absence on any green jobs campaign in Washington would be a missing.

I's always thought Van Jones would be our first African American president. Perhaps the second....

I hope Jones does well. But based on my knowledge of him back in college, I can't shake the belief that anything positive he accomplishes will just be the result of his main goal: gaining attention for himself.
