Wow... Where is this amazing and cool landfill where people are throwing away still-functioning digital music players? Most folks I've ever met use these sorts of things until they lose them or the things fall apart. The typical closing bids for pretty much any decent used player, of any major brand, on eBay suggests that not very many have ended up in the landfill yet...
