It's a little backward to worry more about helping a foreign country than to worry about helping your own... we did and are still doing as much as we can for Haiti. I've got news for you, Haiti isn't the only country in need of our help... what about Chile, Mexico, China, Sumatra, Our very own Country needs our help, animals in our very own ocean. We aren't out to help the survival of humans here, we are out to fix a mess WE created for the poor marine and land animals whom never asked for us to drill for oil in their homes, that are affected by this terrible "accident." You should be ashamed of yourself for putting down people who are trying to help.

Why is truth twisted into something else if one doesn't like an opinion? Things are going to always happen. Natural or man-made.

I just wish environmentalist in general spent half of that energy helping present day people sometime not supposedly those in a far off future.

I have no "ire". Just sick of seeing "agitation" instead of real productivity. I was shocked when I learned how long Haiti had been deforested. You'd think environmentalist would be jostling to got there and plant some trees. It would be a great example and win people over to their cause. Volunteer organizations have been there for decades helping the physical needs of the people there but they also need a means of self sustainability. That whole country could be a "green country" starting from scratch. I just don't understand how such an opportunity could be passed up.

If it weren't for those strawmen environmentalists, we wouldn't have this mess. I suggest you redirect your ire.

Maura,

Thanks for posting this.

I am a small business owner who is donating 10% of our profits during our two busiest months of the year, May & June. We're not doing this for publicity and therefore will not sign our company's name.

I urge other small businesses to do what they can. Please help the birds, the wildlife & the people of the gulf states!

Thanks again!

coming from someone who lives in southern louisiana, it has been frustrating (to say the least) trying to find information on how to volunteer. your story has been extremely helpful and i have forwarded it to many people and also plan on posting it to my facebook and twitter accounts. thank you again.

Yes, like the environmentalists rushing to Haiti with saplings to help with reforesting. . . . or helping with wells/ irrigation programs. Oh yea. THAT didn't happen. If only the'd stop yelling & protesting and do some actual productive work. It turns out the Obama administration stopped the early burn off because of crying by environmentalists. Look it up. Now all of the Gulf coast will be crying because the wind shifted and it may take months to stop this "accident".

Sure hope Sarah Palin and everyone else who chanted "Drill Baby Drill" is assisting with the clean up efforts
