François-Henri Pinault on Sustainable Luxury

There is nothing luxurious about a $30 handbag probably made in an overseas sweatshop using artificial dyes and frankly at $30 probably non-biodegradable fabrics as well. It gets worn for a week and then tossed into the ever growing garbage dump of cheap rubbish.

There is nothing courageous about that.

Our soul and our worth are not governed only by ourselves but also our care and concern for each other and the planet. This is the true luxury to which all self actualising beings will ultimately aspire - the part where living becomes joyous not only because of our concern for ourselves but also because of our concern, love and good actions towards other people and the planet.

is being mentally free of a "need" for certain "brands" of anything.

Luxury is being able to be happy with a $30 handbag and being courageous enough to let it speak for you that you actually have sense. It's a HANDBAG for heaven's sake.

It is not your soul or your worth as a person.
