Shoes: This "molding to the wearer's foot" is a myth. Particularly in the case of children, who outgrow shoes before wearing them out, the ones who gain from this myth are -- you guessed it -- the shoe manufacturers.

When my kids were little, I consulted a pediatrician and mother of triplets about this one. She reassured me that as long as the shoe is intact, it can't harm your child's feet or development. AND they will mold to the new wearer's foot.

My kids wore used shoes up 'til the age of 10, and they all walk and run normally. In fact the youngest was a gymnast and now jogs daily; and the eldest cycles and is in terrific shape. So don't believe that garbage about used footwear.

I agree, especially the kid's stuff. We are talking here the health and even the life of a child. Better buy a brand new kid's stuff then buying a used one.

A recent study showed that 90% of U.S. paper money contains traces of cocaine, because cocaine is so fine it is easily transferred between bills in a cash register, ATM or bill-counting machine. So the percentage of wallets containing cocaine is probably higher than the 1/2 that Nancy claims.

Nancy & anyone else: if you would like to get rid of all your contaminated paper money, I will take it off your hands. Email me and I'll send you my mailing address.

If you wash even the dirtiest, most disgusting used underwear or swimsuit in hot water with good detergent and a little chlorine bleach, you will kill anything on it. If the fabric's in good shape, it's fine. As with the "Hotel beds" comment above, this is irrational, "selective squeamishness."

Wallets: you don't want these because 1. They are kinda like underwear, some people keep them in their underwear or other gross places.

2. In a random sampling of used wallets, almost 1/2 of them had cocaine or crystal residue in them.

2 excellent reasons not to buy used.

Tell me that's a joke about the used wallets

If you don't have qualms about sleeping on a hotel mattress, you shouldn't have any about buying a used mattress. Hotel mattresses are way more skeavy. This is another example of "selective squeamishness".

I've also has great luck with used laptops. I've bought three and they've all served me nicely.

When you combine a great sale with coupons, you can get most of the everyday used stuff for almost free.

What about a used wallet? Is that bad luck or does it matter?
