I can attest to Lending Club and it's returns as an alternative investment. Currently I'm getting 12.36% APY with 100+ loans, with $3k invested. I've been investing for over one year now. I have one loan that more than likely will default. I review Lending Club on my blog:

Compared to other investing option, I'm very happy with the returns. I do admit it's not for everyone and can be risky.

I agree with this article. Paying off debt especially if it's at a high rate (above 8%).

I've been doing Lending Club for over 1 1/2 years and currently getting a 12.32% APY. It's not for everyone, but if you are a mid-level to advanced investor it seems like the perfect fit. Even if you are a novice and invest in the best borrowers, you should be able to get returns above other fixed income investments at the moment.

I review it and give updates on my blog here:

Although P2P lending got off to a rocky start several years ago it looks like it's turning the corner. The median rate of return for prosper investors since re-opening about 1 year ago when the company filed with the SEC is about 13%.

Crunch the numbers for yourself. I used a loan age of < 365.
