Of course, if you get the home inspection, you won't have to check for wiring, foundation etc. Most homebuyers are pretty clueless when it comes to these things anyway, so i am not sure how useful those are as tips. I agree other poster about checking the neighborhood as well. Spend a little time on the block on a Fri or Sat night just to be sure you know what you are getting into. Get involved in some DIY projects yourself prior to any purchase so that you will actually have knowledge about what some costs are to actually fix something. Lastly, shop around for the best rate and fees for your mortgage.

Good points. Now add: check the roof, check the plumbing system, and (very important) check out the neighborhood. Remember the cardinal rule of real estate - location, location, location.
Don't allow yourself to be rushed into home purchase. If you miss one, there is always another house. Purchasing a home is too big of an investment to make amistake. Take your time, be sure of what you are doing, and then enjoy your new purchase.
