When you're shopping for appliances and electronics, it can be difficult to identify the MOST efficient models. At Sears, for example, all of the 43-49 inch televisions it sells are Energy Star qualified. A new non-profit, TopTen USA, addresses that challenge with lists of the 10 most energy-efficient products in a wide range of categories. Please let U.S. News readers know about TopTen. The website is toptenusa.org.

If you need to reduce your energy use then I have to say, the low-e window films are the way to go. We installed low-e window films that we bought from a company called SnapTint and installed them ourselves last winter. We noticed the difference right away. Our rooms stayed warmer and our heating bill was significantly reduced. The window films work by reflecting the radiant heat back into the room instead of letting it go straight out the window. The films also qualified for a federal tax credit. Check out SnapTint's website at snaptint.com for more information if your are interested.
