What You Need to Know About the Estate Tax

@ scott of TX:

The article speaks to more than 3600. If the limit of the taxed is 3600 people, it is because a lot of people are handling their wills and taxes strategically or they don't have to concern themselves with either. The article isn't hiding the fact that they don't want to be taxed, neither does the GOP. Maybe, by this article's standards, the GOP overstates the impact of estate tax, but that is cause for argument and how impact of estate tax is defined. But it doesn't mean that the relevant tax codes are appropriate.

Your tone belies the fact that you think it is your role to force a higher number of Americans to be double-taxed or for GOP to leave the issue alone. Past leaders, but especially the Dems, have socially engineered the code via over-complexity and loophole-riddled rules that nobody understands enough to protect themselves from evasion charges. Some of the readers want all the info they can get to avoid being taxed by a top-heavy gov't who hasn't proved to some of us that it knows how to create ROI.

"When you wrote your will, you were married and had an estate of $5 million;"

You're writing this for 3,600 people? The tone, the audience is missing. You've made the same misdirection the GOP does. Are you seriously addressing an article for 3,600 folk? Your editors would NEVER do such a thing from a marketing perspective, but that's part and parcel of the inherent fraud in this country.

Your article does a good job of showing how few are affected by the estate tax, but the tone of the article belies the facts.
