You really can save money while dining out. I have compiled several tips if anyone is interested in checking this out.

You should also check out www.livecheapr.com which offer 50-90% off things to do in Chicago as of now. They so far have beat almost every daily deal website out there for deal wise.

If you use the website www.Restaurant.com, check the information VERY closely before submitting. I had requested a coupon for a restaurant for my friends and I to use and found after about 8 months, they had been charging my credit card $18 monthly for a service which I supposedly checked for on their website (which I know I never checked for any type of service). They did FINALLY agree to reimburse me for two months, but I ended up paying $90 for a service I never requested. I found them to be rather shady!!

We normally do not get an appetizer nor wine either. I must be even poorer than I thought. I thought he would have said "order water". btw....which I do.

We split full meals all the time...not just appetizers/desserts. Most restaurants allow it generally without a charge. Saves money and calories

Saving money on dining out is easy with the new daily deal and group buying sites. Many of these sites have great discounts at certain restaurants.

Another great site is http://www.dailydealpool.com. This site allows consumers to put in their local area and get the best deals and sales emailed to them daily, ensuring they don't miss out on a great buy.

As for wine, seek out places that allow BYOB and offer corkage service. Most charge about $5 for the service. We typically carry three wines (white, blended red and a varietal) and open the one that best matches what we've ordered..

Ask for smaller or senior portions regardless of your age. Given that most chefs typically plate up more food than the average person can consume, you can save $$ and reduce waste.

Be prepared to take leftovers home - we keep an insulated bag with blue ice in the trunk when dining out at the start of an evening.

Also, sign up at Open Table.COM to make your reservations. You can easily obtain rebates that add up and provide free dining.
