There are lots of rental scams out there preying on renters who feel desperate to find a place to live. Property owners might also rent out properties that are in default, in order to collect some cash before the property is foreclosed.
Do your research. There is a service, CheckYourLandlord.com, that will research the property and landlord for you so that you can make an informed decision.
