I've seen this happen far too often to people here in Arizona. Like the last comment from Lisa, a service where they check the home routinely, pick up mail, and make sure everything is in order is a very very good idea. A few dollars a day can save you bundles of headache's later.

You might want to invest in a home watch service too. Typically, home watch services check on the house routinely (as often as a couple times a week.) They check both inside and outside to make sure all equipment is functioning. Imagine if a pipe burst and you didn't know about it for four months! In summer areas, a non-working AC can cause a home to fill with mold very quickly. Many services even offer things like starting the car and cleaning the home before you come down for vacation.
