Do Stock Options Make You Loyal?

According to a recent Fidelity survey of 600 employees with company stock-purchase plans, 76 percent said those plans make them work harder. Other findings:

  • About half of respondents said stock plans make them less likely to change jobs.
  • 86 percent said they considered the plans to be a key part of their compensation package.
  • More than two thirds said stock plans make them feel more invested in their company.
  • Four in 10 employees surveyed said stock option plans are a must when shopping for a new job.

Good to hear that stock options and equity compensation are still important for employee motivation, retention, and recruitment. They can be a real wealth builder, too, as salaries stay flat. However, employees need to understand the tax and financial planning issues to prevention mistakes and really maximize their value.
