Why aren't more people publicly discussing the possibility that he's knocking on death's door from anorexia? Besides the extraordinary weight loss and fatigue, it can cause or compound organ damage, and is often associated with compulsive behaviors. I've read claims that prior to his most recent leave, he had ceased eating in the Apple cafeteria. Eating alone, eschewing food groups and being generally preoccupied with diet are other warning signs.
Karen Carpenter demanded perfection from everyone around her as well, and greater success simply compounded the disorder. And it wouldn't be the first time that a gifted 'titan of industry' under incredible pressure succumbed to a mental disorder (e.g., Howard Hughes). Even if he'd never admit it publicly, I would pray Mr. Jobs' is getting the proper help he needs...to overcome whatever it is.

Some of the veg websites indicate Steve isn't even a vegan, but in fact eats fish.

is most likely *not* the culprit. There is nothing in a standard American diet that can't be obtained from a vegan diet, except cholesterol. What, specifically, in full-fat cheese would settle one's stomach and improve health? (Especially considering that most humans are lactose-intolerant to some degree.)

Actually, I am just very familiar with the endocrinological problems of ferrets, and in this regard -- insulinoma -- ferrets *might* be a good animal model for studies that would benefit both species.
Insulinoma is rare in most mammalian species so having an animal model can make it easier to learn more, faster. It is also a vastly under-studied health topic, and a serious one.
Up front I have to say that some forms of research done on ferrets -- as with other animals -- appall me, but there are other forms of research (and kind researchers) who manage to benefit many through well designed and caring research work that takes the animals into consideration as well. Hyperinsulinism from insulinoma may be a study topic in which that could be the case.
My comments did not come from a social agenda but from a veterinary endocrinological awareness on this topic, and hopes that knowledge about hyperinsulinism from all causes can be better understood, better treated (Currently, there are few options if surgery is not effective, with both of those med types -- a class of steroids and diazoxide -- having more pronounced side effects in human patients than ferret ones.), and perhaps in the future even be prevented.

Just remember Sukie that humans are not Ferrets and therefore our digestion systems are different. Different types of digestion tracks, different enzymes, different type of salvia. Your comments above almost sound as if you have been dipping into the politically correct "Weston A. Price Foundation" ideology. "Weston A. Price Foundation” receives financial support from those in the cattle/dairy industry.

Steve Jobs may be taking Diazoxide for his condition and therefore the weight loss makes sense. A couple of the side effects of Diazoxide is Anorexia and Chronic Heart Failure. One may believe that Anorexia is more Psychological than Physical...not so. Anorexia is just some of the horrible side effects that one must endure while taking Diazoxide.
I am a mother of a child that was diagnosed in March of 07' with Hyperinsulinism/Hyerammonianemia in the Glutamate Dehydronase Gene, she became the 20th child in the nation at the time of her diagnosis. There are 4 categorizes in the Hyperinsulinism family, there is the focal, diffused, HIHAGDH and the very rare GK HI. The GK HI only has 3 confirmed cases in the world.
Dr. Charles Stanley of CHOP is on the forefront of this disease and I commend Suki for her insight and understanding of this condition that Steve Job's appears to have. If you are wondering about HI, a great place to learn is CHOP.edu and type in HI.
