I strongly relate to your comments that "timing is everything" and "adapt to the situation".

As a Black Belt, I have also learned the importance of adapting to the organization.

My company is very much steady-state in terms of the top line, and by your reasoning is primed for process improvement. A key learning for me is that transformative change can happen by incremental steps, and sometimes it is a better strategy than seeking quick and dramatic change. And for cross-functional process improvements, teamwork (specifically, team problem-solving) is everything.

We've fostered a much greater degree of teamwork (and real progress) by taking an incremental, conservative approach to process improvement.
