7 Workplace Fears

The only fear I have IS my work place. It is negative, and so mediocre that I fear I will be stuck here for the rest of my life. Not to mention I work at a University and I always think of crazy gun-men charging in and just shooting us all up. It happened once, but the guy was caught before he could actually do anything. This world gets crazier by the day.

That sounds so awful. I hope you find something soon.

I was just laid off from my position and had no clue it was going to happen. As a matter of fact, four people were laid off that day (1 week ago). The most frightening thing for me is that it took me a long time to get back into my career after brain surgery and I'm over 50. I spent nearly 30 years honing my career and was laid off because the firm couldn't afford to keep the four of us,who were key personnel. I'm scared that I'll never find another position befitting my background and experience. I can't afford to wait for it to happen because all of my medical issues drained all of the cash reserves I had. Unemployment in my state is dismal, at best, but it's something. I'm not sure how the bills will be paid, and if I'll be on the street next month. There was no severance of any kind and COBRA will cost everything I have. My husband is retired and on Social Security. We really don't have many options. This turned out to be a very sad situation and one that I find difficult to deal with. I will apply for positions and continue to be hopeful that something will break, but in our current economy, I don't know for sure.

I was at work one day and I accidentally tucked my skirt into my undies after being to the bathroom. It was the CFO (essentially a very quiet man) who eventually told me. I burned with shame for days, weeks, months later.
