Hi all, after bumping into this web site and reading all the posts,I decided to share my job hunting experience. Last week I sent my CV to a company and had an immediate response. I've had 2 interviews by Friday already. During the 2nd one, I met the owner of the company, the HR manager, and even their accountant as I was told they were interested in me and gave me 1 month of probation before the full-time job. I agreed. I did send the a you e-mail to all the interviewers on the same day when my 2nd interview was. Nevertheless, I have not heard from them this week at all! I also sent an email asking politely about their timeline and when I may hear from them. Still..nothing. isn't it weird?!

And one things, the company islocated in Italy.

Ok, I am waiting for a potential employer. Past the phone interview. Met for the first initial interview and got called back for the second interview. Passed both with flying colors. So, now i'm here eagerly waiting for the decision. It's very nerve racking and nonetheless, almost tempted to send a follow up message asking them about there final decision. My second interview was Wednesday and today is Friday. They did tell me that a decision would be made at the end of the week. So, if I don't hear anything back, should I send a message after business hours inquiring about there decision?

I find it extremely rude that companies do not get back to me after I explicitly ask at the end of the interview and wait about a week after the date and email reminding them I am interested in know when they will be making final decisions. It makes internship hunting a horrible experience...and I'm a 4.00 Petroleum Engineer major!

When you want to make a follow up call do you follow up with the person that interviewed you or the Human Resources Dept?

I have followed up to confirm the timeline with the HR Manager. Do I still follow up with the Hiring Manager (which would be future boss) or is it overkill?

Javone, that is wretched. Susan is right that it could be due to the sort of budget situation she suggests. This is obviously tremendously unfair to you as a candidate, when you may have resigned your job, turned down other offers, etc. It can really put you in a bad position. Because of that, I think employers have an ethical obligation to be very sure of their ability to make a hire before they extend an offer -- but not all of them do.

Easy: the job could have been part of a grant that was not renewed.

The university may have had a cost overrun somewhere else, the dept. that posted your job may have had to swallow the costs.

There are legitimate reasons for what happened, unfortunately.

I had an interview with a research company and received an offer the very same day, hours later. After accepting the offer, I was sent alot of forms to fill out along with a start date. Once, I received the forms, I proceeded to complete them. The very next day, before sending the forms back to the company, I received a call that the offer had to be withdrawn due to a failed budget. How is it possible to advertise and obtain an employee, and then suddenly, its not in the budget, of a State University?

i'm in this process right now! it's so nerver wracking! I've been on several interviews where the employers NEVER get back to you, an it is so frustrating and maddening!

At the moment, I'm wating to hear back from an interview 1 week ago. I interviewed on a Wednesday afternoon (in which I did NOT ask about the timeline!), and sent the thank you note Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, I got a reply back with a request for references. I promptly replied back and am probably going to write a follow up "timeline email tonight or tomorrow. I REALLY want the job, so I'm trying my best to be patient!!!!!

Thanks for the advice!
