Hello,

I am a mother of 2 trying to start a day care business. I have been working with children since 1997 and recently finished school in Early Childhood Education. Due to lack of collateral I am having a hard time finding a bank to back my loan request.

I have a strong business plan and a passion for what I do. Does anyone have any ideas to raise money? I am looking for a possible private lender.

I need to raise about $2500 because I cant get a bank loan, personal loan or any other type of loan and borrowing from family and friends is out of the question. How do I approach businesses for money? It doesnt seem like it would be hard to get but I dont know where to start. HELP!

I would like to start a small business where I would either deliver or customers could pick up on the way home meals. Each day will be a "different meal". I will be starting this from my home. I would like to know if you can give me any insight on what I might encounter or how to advertise.

I am also trying to find startup money. I have been searching the internet for ways to do so that wouldn't take much of my current money.

I recently read an article on Entrepreneur.com. One of the people in the article suggested Storage places. These storage places often have people who do not pay their rent and then auction off their stuff. If you know what to look for, then you can get some sweet bargains, then ebay them off for a much larger profit. Just bring a truck. I hope that helps. I'm going to be calling storage places in my area to find out when they hold those auctions and see if I can get anything to resell.

Also, I just came across a company who will pay you to recycle inkjet cartridges and cell phones. You do not need to be a non-profit to participate. check out:www.phoneraiser.com/. I have never used them, but it is worth checking out.

For more ideas, see if a SCORE adviser can help you or even an SBA adviser might have some tips.

Good luck! :)

If you're an early-stage startup or small business entrepreneur, then you should start by raising money from your friends and family members that you trust and who believe in you. If you can't raise some money from those close to you, then it might be impossible to raise money from other external sources. When you're ready to raise a friends-and-family round, try a new site called 40billion.com which helps make it easier for entrepreneurs. 40billion.com is the friends-and-family funding network for entrepreneurs.

Ray...I have some more ideas and tips at my main blog at http://blogs.jobdig.com/wwds. Raising money is most definitely hard work, no question, but you can do it. Lots of others have done it so you have a lot of company.

WG:...great point. A given, but too important for me to ignore. thanks.
