Suzanne - Excellent advice, as usually folks don't know when a layoff is about to happen (other than the 'report to my office' email). This is a checklist that should be kept handy at all times!

I recently posted an article about Outplacement Counseling and why it is so critical in a job search. Many people may not even be aware of what's involved in this training, the difference it will make in a job search, and that they can ask for it as part of a severance package. I would add: If you possibly can, ask all these questions with a SMILE. Later you can go home and freak out, but lay-off time is a primo opportunity to display your class and resilience.
