Boy! did you guys miss the point. It was about humility not pride and i respected everyone around me the guys i worked with were so wonderful they encouraged me every day and as far as the work field: A wise woman or man knows when he has a valuable tool and anyone who thinks they are Gods gift to the workplace whether it is a employee or boss or human resource. A bad employee or bad boss is like a bad tooth it eventually falls out. and by the way no one with an bad attitude is gifted because they do posses gifts but their attitude get in the way.

I have a unique situation this far into blog. I think I am getting fired from a job where a introvert/unsocial sales manger has a power trip to overcome is insecurities. I was informed by girlfriend who is a senior account sales person that my boss has harrased two other workers for difference in personality. Even though I kicked butt the three months i was under review. Can a boss do this

??

I'm about to fire someone for having a really bad attitude. He was late every day last week and is late at least 3X a week for the last two months despite getting written warnings and verbal warnings about his lateness. He back talks me and I'm not just the manager, I'm the owner. His ego is huge and I'm sick of it. He is defensive and arrogant when he's reprimanded and it's going to suck for us since he performs a crucial task in our business. The saddest thing is his work is really good.

Your advice is spot on. Drop the ego. Then drop it again.

My manager said we were having our weekly one-on-one but didn't let me know that HR was going to be there...surprise!! I thought something was up when she scheduled 1 hr rather than the usual 30 minutes. She wasn't pleased with my performance and even went back to 2008 dates. I have been on intermittent FMLA for the past year until ending March 2010 for medical reasons as it has been an emotional drain to go into that particular job every day in addition to the medical part. She has given me a written warning and if I don't improve in 30 days, 'further disciplinary action may be taken' which could include termination. (thought they couldn't do that while on FMLA???) She decides to tell me this while my husband has been in the hospital for the last 4 weeks and won't be well enough to come home for Thanksgiving. But....she was very 'apologetic' that this must come at a difficult time for you and your family. Thanks for the insensitivity! I am not fearful as much as I dislike having to play a roll by smiling and pretending I like my job...or even her when I don't like either!! I think they are looking at getting me out before the year is out.

There was a reorganization and they took me out of the supervisory position that I loved and laterally moved me in an area which has given me the most resistance and headache. Some say they had it already in their minds to set me up to fail. *The 3rd month I was there, I was told what a terrible job I was doing. I am tired of having to defend myself all the time with anything I do! I am told it is better to be fired than resign for unemployment....is that true? This was a very good article. I will be checking back on your updates! Thank you for 'listening'. :)

is probably going to lose me my job today because I got tired of working on a document that shouldn't have been my responsibility and my boss has been using that assignment as a way to chip away at me, sending it back for corrections even SHE missed the first three or four times and making up new ones that really aren't needed. Because HER boss is not as worried about this and wants me to focus on other priorities, I'm caught between a rock and a hard place if I make EITHER side a priority. Someone always criticizes!

I've only been working at the company eight weeks and while they interviewed me for one position, they apparently hired me for another, less senior, position. They're low on money but won't let me take on a toolset until we have another person on the department. So basically I'm being prevented from doing the most important aspect of my job.

It could have been a good opportunity; if she had trusted me to do my job (and given me a little time to get up to speed, which should be a given on a project like this) I'm sure I could have done a solid job for them. Great coworkers too, for the most part.

Never ask your boss for more direction on the job. Not only will she think you're incompetent, she'll take it to heart and micromanage you right out of it.

I think that I am going to get fired because I went to HR and told on an employee, ever since then I have been called into the office for little things and written up for things that the other employee does and does not get written up on.I even had overtime taken off of my check. I am at a loss of what to do.

I am afraid at work because it is never good when I get called into the office.
