I think another quality of a good boss is one who knows a good idea when he or she sees one and isn't afraid to go out on a limb to support it. There's nothing quite as infectious as working for someone who gets a thrill out of their work and is willing to take a chance every now and then.

I do feel that the boss should be the one with "big shoulders."

He makes sure you know about your mistake, and helps you correct it so that you don't repeat it. He holds you responsible for it. Definitely!

But to the outside world, he takes the blame on himself. The buck stops with him.

Or her, as the case may be.

I agree with your list, sans one. A good boss should not take the blame for your mistakes - that discourages you from taking responsibility for it. A good boss will take as much blame for your mistake as is fairly their responsibility. If miscommunication led to an incorrect result, then a good boss response would be to assign mutual blame on you and him for failing to communicate clearly, and outline steps to prevent that in the future.

Nah! I had no that good luck with any so far, Unfortunatly. Seen that most bullies bosses tend to be too arrogant 24/7. I will have to say that all my bosses are been all a super BS alltogether regardless, no good. What I will never get it would be that I am not a mind reader after all. So I got the wrong training technically speaking. I don't know what they expect from one person. Eventually the best career out there to pursue should be a mind reader instead so that way will be at the same page regardless of mood swings and brainstorming that need being detected before the bullies bosses get angrier by the minute and exarberate out of control and start talking BS all over the place like a mad man on the run. Unbelievable! Is a No Win Situation anyhow...

Good bosses are people who have worked for a good boss themselves---to see it modeled---and hopefully who are working for a good boss now. You can't expect much from your guy/lady above you if he or she is presently suffering in Dilbert-land.

Good bosses speak well of the company and even better of its workers--in all departments--not just their own. Good bosses do not bully people or issues in meetings (or even have very many meetings at all EXCEPT for clear explanation of technical matters.)

Good bosses eventually have self-supervising workers who hardly need a "boss" at all.
