6 Reasons You Failed the Phone Interview

I recently interviewed with Amazon by phone and I can say I am thoroughly unimpressed. During the first stage, the interviewer was late. At the second stage the interviewer had "other obligations" and couldn't make it. My recruiter apologized and asked me to reschedule.

I've declined, as I have no real desire to work for a company that treats its recruits with such overwhelming unprofessionalism. Lost one of my paid holiday days to these jokers. Not ready to lose another

I like reading your article, it totally explained why I failed my last phone interview. I learned it the hard way and I won't let that happen again.

I am so glad I took the time to read your article! I am currently preparing for my first phone interview, which will be tomorrow morning. I have read about some of your suggestions from other sources, but I love hearing about your perspectives as an interviewer. Thank you so much for sharing!

Years ago I ran an ad in an industry paper looking for a person with experience working on a specific model of mainframe computer. I got a call from someone answering the ad on a Sunday evening and the caller was eating pizza in my ear while he was trying to convince me that I should fly him halfway across the country on my dime for an interview. It didn't work!

Crazy as this may sound, I put on a suit and tie prior to a phone interview - gives a major psychological boost to be dressed as if in person. Needless to say, all distractions are eliminated. When interviewing, I always stand and walk around. An old axiom in sales is "Motion creates Emotion". On several occasions, hiring managers complimented me on my phone skill. These little things really hepl.

The points made here are very interesting and helpful.

Since so much emphasis is put on the telephone interview, I'm wondering what advice you'd give to someone who's voice is impaired or who doesn't come across the phone wires sounding like the interviewer expects for whatever reason.

I have a neurological condition that affects my tone and control, among other things, and it has resulted in phone interviewers ruling me out before I have a chance to answer their questions.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Many thanks!

Is there any way to remove myself as a top commentator? That would be the icing on the cake.
