Cutting Salaries in a Recession

I have to agree that if the boss keeps the wages low after cutting them when the economy turns around then the company will see the employees bolt out the door for better positions! And were will that leave the company? In a whole lot worse place then they were before. And why? Greed on part of the boss/owner!

As a manager with 45 years experience I can tell you that the average management skill levels in the United States are dangerously low. Somewhere along the line these skills were lost. I can sum up the most important management methods using well known foke-lore:

1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

2. If the ship sinks, blame the captain. If the ship makes a successful crossing, congratulate the crew.

3. Rocks are always closer in the fog.

4. The best carpenter has the sharpest tools.

A GREAT manager takes ALL the blame for department or company failure(s), maintains a clear course for all to see, praises his employees for a job well done, keeps them connected and sharp with training and information, and never forgets that humans are fragile in all ways and treats them with compassion and respect.

Your boss needs a time out to review his own shortcomings.
