Thank you firing someone is very challenging even in tough times. The bottom line unfortunately is the bottom line. Without the numbers the company folds.

Thanks for the advice. I'm now bracing myself to fire someone and am scared at the unpredictability of how they will respond. I will try to remember this advice.

This is really hard. Even though a church office has to run efficiently too, there is always this expectation that "the church is forgiving." There is a difference between mistakes which can be forgiven because the person has learned and moved on, and someone not having the skill, or, as it said in the article----it not being the "right fit." I think that is the best way to approach it. I know I've had jobs that weren't the right fit for me, and when I changed venues, even when doing the same job, it was a difference of night and day. Still, firing someone is a very difficult thing to do.

I am a small business owner who've never had employees before. After trying someone out for two weeks, I've decided she doesn't have the skills that I must have for my clients. I'm preparing to leave to meet with her and let her know that I'm ending her employment. It's something I've never had to do and my internet search for advice sent me to this article. I feel more empowered to do this now that I'm armed with tactics to make it less painful on us both.

Thank you!

It's hard for THEM. Be compassionate, but you're not the one who needs pity.

I just fired 5 this week! I'm on a roll. It get's easier and easier. I guess it's kind of like anything scary, once you do it enough, it's kind of fun. Thanks Alison!
