Should You Switch Jobs in a Recession?

Another suggestion to add to the list: Rather than looking at this as a job decision, look at how it fits into the bigger picture of your career. Will switching jobs advance your long-term goals, or simply change your day-to-day work environment?

If the prospective job doesn't offer much in terms of opportunity to learn and advance, then it may not be worth the jump. If you want to improve your current situation, remind yourself of your long-term goals and plot the steps to get there. Rather than going for another job, go for the experiences and connections that lead toward your ultimate goal.

Very valid points. People often don't think about what a risk they're taking with a new job. Often, it's worth the risk, but right now, the stakes are higher.

Try coming up with new points that 10,000 other bloggers haven't covered ...

Thank you for posting this article. As a career specialist for Kaplan University, we talk to our adult students about job searching and this is a topic that comes up quite often.

The most important point I feel is to make sure you don't "jump from the frying pan into the fire". Sure a job may pay better than your current job, but if you "get the ax" in 3 months - was it worth the move?

Once again - great post!
