How to Disagree With Your Boss

With you, your boss, and your underlings all apparently being women (inferred from the frequent use of the feminine articles), I have to ask what this terrifying business from which you receive a paycheck is called. I envision you all sitting around over coffee droning out overly obvious nuggets of advice, sneaking in a couple of Milano's just before and after your two hour lunch break, and getting out during your downtime into the fresh air to wreck the occasional car.

Truly an exemplary column and kudos to U.S. News for picking it up!

In my work as a speaker, author and consultant promoting respecful workplace cultures I have seen the effect that deciding to "stew silently or disregard" can have, and it does not promote either productive or healthy working relationships. Giving your boss this type of feedback is respectful both to yourself and to your boss. Try it.

Doug, that assumes you're working for a jerk and a bad manager. If you are, you should get out anyway.

We manage top down - no questions asked - or else! They push the 'insubordination' rule and you're gone the next day! Bye-bye - nice knowing you!
