5 Ways Managers Fail at Delegating

I think we can add unofficial delegation: which means to delegate a job for someone, this job is not related to his original job description or experience, and not giving staffer sufficient training or even sufficient time to read about this. I think this is a big waste for employee experience and very frustrating.

Insightful, management is about doing things through others so get the right person, agree with him and follow up but without antagonising him

sure and iv seen manangers fired for delegating stuff they should of done or known thier self because the mananger above them thought they should of been able to handle it thier self or know it thier self so be very carfull when deciding on what to give to some one else

I've read a few of the posts about common mistakes and how-to's, and Alison Green is absolutely spot on for so many of them! And that's just in my current company! Her insights are truly priceless and should be read by students, interns, fresh graduates and everyone all the way up to CEO! Some of the best and most succinct insights I've come across for a long time.

I went through a phase that when something less-than-interesting arose, I felt guilty asking someone else to do it - so I did it myself. Which is silly because if it's too 'low brow' for the team, why should it be OK for the boss?

to look out for, Alison! I've shared your list with my readers in my weekly Rainmaker 'Fab Five' blog picks of the week (found here: http://www.maximizepossibility.com/employee_retention/2009/10/the-rainmaker-fab-five-blog-picks-of-the-week-1.html)to share these important items managers must look out for.

Thanks for the great read!

One more thing to add to the article: I've always felt it's easier to delegate an *established* process rather than a *new* set of responsibilities.
