When Punishment Backfires at Work

In our company you get 3 days off (with pay). The unlucky employees get hit on a Tuesday. The luck employees start the "punishment" on either a Monday or a Wednesday for a 5 day paid "vacation" that does not count against vacation time. :) It's a real incentive to not screwup. Of course the 3rd time it happens your are put on notice for a possible layoff/termination.

Bosses in the modern era do not issue punitive threats like "one more mistake and you're outta here" to try to get employees to avoid mistakes. They do it (usually on paper) to make the case and build the file for terminations.
