A polite and considerate employer will see to your basic needs before the interview. This includes things like asking if you need any water (mouths do get dry) or need
to go to the bathroom, etc. An employer who does less than that gets what they deserve - instant karma. And instant karma's gonna bite ya in the ass.

It's interesting to me to read the comments from so many job seekers. I am in the position of hiring right now, and the crap that I have been receiving has been literally appalling to me. Gross misspellings, grammar and structure errors, 7 page resumes (seven pages, really? Are you kidding me? SEVEN PAGES?) - the list goes on. And then when we get to the phone screen, these applicants can't even correctly answer a pool of 12 relatively EASY questions. We may in a recession, but it's as hard as ever to find good, qualified applicants.
The next time you send your resume' out to someone, look at it closely. Did you run spell check? Did you have a friend look it over for obvious and not so obvious errors? Is your grammar correct? Are you even qualified for what you are applying for?
I assure you, if YOU don't have the time to do it right, I sure as hell don't have time to waste reading through your lousy resume.

Same thing happened to me, kept waiting and not even having my presence acknowledged. Problem is that there are so many applicants applying for each position, potential employers do not have to be polite or nice and a lot of them aren't! In addition, has anyone else noticed how wages have gone down? Most of the job requirements I read lately state the job requirements as "High School Education, College Preferred." What that means is if you have a college education, you'll be paid at the High School level because, according to employers, that's all the education and training the job requires -- but they will use your college education. Just an excuse to pay less to more qualified people.

In a 2 week span, I (the applicant) was kept waiting, once for 30 minutes, once for an hour. Both future employers had an extended "lunch". What kind of crap is that? I would not dream of showing up to an interview a second late, let alone 30 minutes. But then, I'm not holding the cards.

#14. Talking about salary requirements too soon.
Are you kidding me? I've been asked about what compensation I was looking for by EVERY single HR person with whom I've ever an intro phone interview. It's frustrating as all hell, especially considering they've read all the same advice, and yet they force you to answer anyway.
