The 4 Big Career Potholes

I think that there is a fifth pothole called obsolescence. I see so many educated (BA's, MBA's and MA's) executives out of work. Most of them have be laid off in the last year or two. They can't new jobs at their current level and companies will not hire them for lower level jobs. These are people with current job skills. It is as if they are being told to retire and let the young people have the jobs. I wonder if other people are seeing the same thing.

I can't help but agree that it's never too late to earn that college degree. I have two relatives and a friend - all in their 50s - who have gone back to the classroom to earn degrees. The older you are, the more motivated you are to get that degree, especially if it can help advance your career.

Also, as a professional writer, I find it amazing how many high school and college students don't place enough emphasis on writing skills. With the increased dependence on e-mail, companies need professionals who can string words and sentences together easily.
