How Introverts Hide Behind Technology

I appreciate your comments and clarification. I strongly agree that technology can be a powerful tool for those of us who regard ourselves as introverted or shy. (Thanks fot the link!)

I've long thought of myself as introverted but I am probably confusing that with being shy.

Thanks again.

Michael I don't see it this way at all. As a successful entrepreneur, an INTJ, I use online tools as just that - tools. Who said extrovert sanctioned unstructured networking events are the ONLY way to connect? And who says the internet is the only way to connect? They are both tools and can be enjoyed by others.

Introverts don't HIDE behind technology. They tend to use it in the same way that extroverts use "going to a bar, a bowling alley or a night club," They are tools for a first connection which eventually leads to either a telephone conversation, face to face or - in long distance situations, video calls.

This is why I ask you, are you an introvert?

Michael:

I think you display a poor understanding of introversion in your column. Don't feel bad -- it's widespread.

Introversion is not the same as shyness or a tendency for conflict avoidance. Here's an article that might help you:

It's not that your points aren't good ones. They make sense to me. But, I believe you should learn to describe them in other ways.

Aside: This reminds me of how people use schizophrenia interchangeably with "multiple personality." Not quite right...

Kind regards,

Mike
