5 Things to Consider Before You Quit Your Job

When your employer pushes you into a corner for reasons like budget cuts, executives blaming the assistant for their mistakes, or making you feel like a chump by making you take on more responsibility for the same money since they fired the last coordinator...enough is enough. Quit and keep what's left of your dignity. Move on.

There is definitely a power imbalance between employers and employees. I work for the federal postal services in Canada and I am truly disturbed at how our rights are trampled on without consequence. Denied over-time pay, health and safety violations and a general lack of integrity by this crown corporation.

But beware of the union--they operate like corporations. Their aim, to take your dues and do nothing to protect hard fought for labor rights.

To Muser of NM - It may surprise you, but not all people in charge in our government or businesses are either right wing, catholic, or both. And, of those who are, not all are bad. Not all liberals are bad, either. The ones who are bad are usually those pushing government moneybag programs so that everyone can have the exact some advantages as everyone else. Take away the competetive spirit of life and business, in which the successful can help others because - that's right - they are SUCCESSFUL (imagine that - help from the private sector) and what you have is no more failure for anyone, even though some people sit around on their rear ends all day, and no success, either because no one is motivated. Why should anyone try when the federal government (can we all say LIBERALS?) takes away what we earn to give it to those who don't care where it comes from because the world owes them a living? No politician is perfect and no system is, either. But we need less handouts and more motivation to work. So go off into your "life is easy" idealism and elect your liberals who will, no doubt, give you life on a silver dish. Just make sure it is far from the United States and leave the real voting to those who care for our future and know what they are doing. I can't wait for 2012!

"The employer-employee relationship has such a slanted power dynamic,....."

This is our own fault. When tens and tens of millions of Americans have signed their voluntary assent to be fired at any time for any reason or no reason, and when we have allowed a gang of right-wing Republican Catholic men to tell us what our unlegislated legal "doctrines" are (employment at the "will" of corporations, paper entities that do not have a "will"), then of course plenty of people are unhappy at work.

You either will shut off Rush Limbaugh and gather the stones to unslant the power dynamic some, or you will be made smaller, and smaller, and smaller.

No, don't just quit your job. Elect real liberals----and a lot of them. Changing the law is up to gutsy people. No one else ever will.

...sometimes last days, weeks, months, years, etc. Make sure you have given due consideration to head and heart and slept on a big decision such as this for some time.
