I have a bachelors degree and I went back to get a two year degree in respiratory therapy and I love it! Everyone is jumping into nursing school and don't realize that there are many other medical fields that make just as much as a nurse. I make just as much. Nursing is not for everyone! In my area we have big hospitals and they depend on the community college to push out workers. From nuclear medicine, repiratory therapy, health information, cardiac sonography there are a lot of two year degrees in the medical field that pay well. There was a 57 year old man in my class with a pace maker and he graduated and has a great job as a respiratory therapist. These r different times. One has to stay educated to keep up with things. Gone r the days where u can graduate and that's it! I'm 43 and I plan on continuing my education to become a health administrator. We have to stop feeling sorry for ourselves cause no one wants to hear us cry the blues. We can take that energy and do something else with it to move on! The young folks r go getters. I hang with them cause they are open minded and they hip me on as to what's going on out here. Stay around positive people. It takes hard work, money and time but it is well worth it! Didn't see that before I started my journey but I see it now!

Alwaya been able to get a good job. Matter of fact a times in my life, I've

even worked two or three jobs. I've been told that the women have all the jobs.

Well not any more, it doesn't matter that you're a woman, whether you don't mind working lower level, even two or three days part time work. Just, somebody help, the utilities are taking all my money,Can't buy medicine, visit the Dr., not old enough for Medicare. Not elgible for medicaid. Do I buy food or

pay rent? It seem as if they have forgot us, we've worked all our lives, some from the age of 8yrs to 60.I was told go to college get a better education, I did that. Now I'm over qualified. What's left we can't just roll over. I pray every day that God will Heal our land. That is what it will take. For us to turn from our wicket ways, pray and God will hear from Heaven and heal our land.

Thank you Jan, for the encouraging words. I am over 50, tried the Alternative Teaching program and have earned my Master's. I am still looking and feeling low. But I am going to start putting one front in front of the other and keep going. I know God has a plan.

I can relate. I turned 48 and for the first time ever I am encountering roadblocks. We moved with the Army every three years, so I am pretty used to interviewing. Then came the crunch. Just before the recession in October 06, I had to quit a 10-year slot due to an upcoming conflict of interest. I had become a 40-something and added 40 lbs. I have shed 20 of that this year, but I still just don't seem to have that magic interview touch anymore. It is very discouraging.

I am 43. Have great experience, a good education, impecable references, and a focused background and I can't even get looked at. "over qualified" "not bi-lingual" "stronger candidates" - They all lead to you are a 43 yr. old, less than beautiful, white woman who no one wants to hire and by the way, don't you have a husband at home to feed you or something? In the meantime, my parents need help with their fixed income and my daughter wants to go to college. How do I do all that on no income? Minimum wage jobs [that are abundant] don't pay the bills.

Charlie, you said it, I go and apply for positions and so have 30 other people. Even though discrimination - in my case, age is unlawful, it is still happening. I have at least 10 great years ahead of me, but they do not see that.

I want to work, but it's hard to even get an interview or a response back.

Good luck.

I suspect you are a young woman.Yours is not the only complaint I heard about the Medical field in general. If you take a look at Houston's Sunday paper, there are at least two full spread pages on job availability.

I had need to visit my Doctor a couple of weeks ago. And I mentioned to the RN

she picked the right Career path for herself. She told me, "I'm not so sure. I have been looking for a job for (2) years to get this job."

I'm 63 with 35 years background in Production Manufacturing. You must remember factories. They now reside in Europe, Mexico. Or Where ever cheap labor can be had. How about these Recruiter outfits.

You cannot get past to view jobs without 1. Asking your Birth date. 2. The highest grade level you finished. 3.The Government can lend you money to go back to school. By the time I'm done with school. I'll really be to old. I'm retiring

because my job now requires (4) University Degree does not matter what. With

3 years experience.

I received my AAS in Medical Billing and Coding about 2yrs ago and every position that I have applied for wants you to have 2 or more years of training before they will considering hiring you. What can i do to get the training needed to get a job in this field? I have also tried researching these's types of jobs working from home, but everything feel like a scam to me.
