Roger, that's another great option. Thanks for adding it to the list.

Interestingly, a client of mine just incorporated a bicycle commute into his daily routine for that very reason. He says it has made a world of difference on how he feels going into the day.

One way I try to make the day more positive is commuting by bicycle to work a few days a week.

I have a 32 mile round trip on pretty flat land through several cities in Southern California.

I get mentally energized from the ride. I think exercise does that for me. I get to slow down and ride through different neighborhoods and see at a slower pace the rest of the community. On the ride home, I sometimes smell the cooking odors in the diverse neighborhoods. My route takes me by schools, and parks, water ways. It's a great way to discover the environment and life around me.

Great example, Alison! Thanks for sharing that. That's an option I missed. Start the day out with a few minutes of doing something you love. Excellent!

I'm a weaver, spinner and dyer stuck in a tech job, with two dogs, a partner and the usual home upkeep to deal with. Often, my day looks like a long to-do list and I'm lucky to get 1.5 hours time for *my* stuff at the end of the day. It's frustrating and dispiriting.

A few weeks ago, I decided to start my day with 15 minutes at my spinning wheel. For me, this combines meditation, mood adjustment and positive planning - and, importantly, means that I've started the day with something that is just for myself. Despite scheduling a 15 minute 'delay' into my morning, I'm actually getting to work earlier (which means leaving earlier!), in a calmer, more positive state of mind. I'm not spending useless time reading the Internet in an attempt to avoid the day. And even if the day goes completely against me, I have already done something - even if only for 15 minutes - to help me pursue my passion. So yes - start the day on a high note - you won't regret it.
