I notice US News, Monster and a host of other popular sites with HR columnists, all of which are educated, articulate and seem to offer all sorts of suggestions for how to handle job-related situations.

Remember something about MOST in HR...mid to large organizations usually expect very few things of HR...more checks/balances and compliance, etc, and less on human capital development and strategic planning.

The point is, by nature, most HR columnists are trained to offer advice based on the assumption a reader wants to remain "institutionalized", that is, keeping in the good graces of management of employers...which comes in handy. That being said, while HR are the ones advising everyone else on how to stay calm and act politically correct, keep in mind that, until their department faces turmoil and they are staring down their own metaphoric shot gun barrel, it is easy for them to give advice on how to act.

Go attend a SHRM meeting and talk to those who were on the other side of it, and you will notice they are less quick to offer advice on how to behave when they lost their position or job, etc.

Aim for Fame - If you want another job, a decent reference, or the ability to show your face in your chosen industry, how you leave a job is just as (if not more) important than how you arrive. Remember, you have a live after you leave, and that's hard to do when your 10 years of experience is uselessly wiped away because you couldn't control your temper for another few minutes.

When "you're done", do so with some dignity. That leaves the ability to work the next month. Sure, this guy got his fifteen minutes of fame, but he'll never work for an airline again, and anyone who recognized his name or face won't even review his resume. He's seriously stunted is career for the next decade, and it may not be possible to recover.

He's a hero to frustrated people everywhere, but the people who cheer him will still have jobs and homes in a month. This guy may not.

When you are done, you are done. If you are willing to grab to beers and go down a slide, who gives a flying f**k what anyone else thinks. Stress consumes millions of peoples lives, and it needs to be released. So personally get off your high horse and come down to earth, there is no wrong way to quit, the bigger, the louder, the more public your exit from a job that is causing you stress, THE BETTER!

nomnom, you're right! She's another example. Umm, yeah, it's because we're all jealous of your looks.

Mouse, I agree. I've noticed that the woman who argued with him has stayed suspiciously quiet. Methinks she realizes she was out of line and that the world is against her. Customer service is so difficult and made moreso by short-sighted management.

you forgot the 'hot' lady who sued her employer for sexual discrimination coz she is too 'hot' and then posed for skanky pics for her lawyer...

He instantly became the hero of every single one of us who has had a customer service job where the company line is to "suck it up" when a customer is a jerk. And something tells me he's about to get rich off of this story.

Not that this negates your points in any way. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

And as an amusing aside, my captcha is "The eminions." This tickles me.
