what if current managers see your current post/interest in looking for a new job? couldn't that be detrimental...?

You make a very good point. It is critical to protect and manage your online reputation at all times, especially when engaged in a job search. Always be aware that what you say or post on a personal social media site can come back to bite you. Also, do your best to clean up any credit mishaps (or errors on your credit report) and maintain spotless credit, as any negative knocks to your Credit History can potentially affect your job search.

@morris wise aren't the illegal immigrants also subject to the same background checking methods the passed-over person has to go through?

Employers can find information on a potential employee in less than five minutes. Credit, marital status, past employment, arrests, and recent history is available for only 50 bucks. Phone calls to friends and neighbors can be done for less than 250. If your past is less than acceptable, the only jobs available are with illegal immigrants.

WARNING! I used a socialistic network site (that I wont name) and I got me in big As# trouble. I was looking for work - and being social and stuff. Using many of tips that Ms. Olson talks about. I did get some contacts, but then I got contacted by a collection agency - I bought a vacuum cleaner from Sears (not that it matters) and did not pay it back. I would have paid but the thing was such a piece of crap - okay I'm getting off subject. So anyway they found me on my socials site and made me pay (I did not have the option of returing the vaccum. In fact, I gave my mother the vacuum and she also this its crap. But anyway, the site got me in alot of trouble! I did get a job but it was becasuse i got lucky and heard about this job (started out as minimal wage) making parts for ventriloquist dolls. So be careful or the man will bring you down!
