Heather, excellent suggestions! After the research, I'd recommend that candidates ask themselves the following questions:

- What are the top 5-10 skills that they're looking for in an ideal candidate?

- What are the keywords and/or phrases they will be looking for?

- What keeps the hiring manager up at night?

- What is the hiring manager's biggest challenge in filling this role?

This information may be included in the job description, blog posts, or Twitter feed. Even if it's not available, one can usually anticipate answers based on their secondary research.

By knowing the hiring manager's pain points, you're likely to impress the interviewer that you not only understand them but you can also solve their pain.
