Beware of the ‘Easy’ Job Interview

I agree with Hannah! When I showed up for the interview, they told me I was already hired "because of my resume". Two weeks into the job I was also terminated immediately, without so much as a single question asked, for the decision to make engineering aware of conflicts between customer and supplier specifications.

My advice, definitely take the time to be sure that both sides have a clear picture of who they are getting and that your corporate personalities match.

Sometimes the easy interview is the only interview and it lands you the job too quickly beware of these as these comapnies usually chew through their empolyees too quickly because they are unfair to them.

My experience has been that I have been called to interviews and going through the personality tests for jobs with as much education and clean back ground checks and honest person I have always been to the point.. to find that someone else was hired for the same job and you were passed up. then that person left because they never worked out with the company. what else is new.

If it is tough to get a job when you are under 50, just imagine what it is like when you are older. You have the background, the experience, and the energy to do the job. You have supervised people all your working life. It seems like a perfect fit, but you are automatically eliminated due to your age. Is there age discrimination going on? You betcha', and you will not get past this bias unless they are truly desperate for someone to fill the position. I don't think this will change in the foreseeable future. A shame really, as their has never been a substitute for experience in an industry. Add to that the relationship-building skills that only a seasoned person possesses.

It seems as though in the industry I have been involved in for the past 15 yrs, they are moving towards the screening interview for the large corporations I now find myself interviewing with. You can tell that the person you are speking to has a general idea of what the job entails but the real job is getting them to pass you on to the persons who really have the say so and are leading the team that you are trying to be a part of. My last one was a few days ago and I am sitting on pins and needles to find out if this person who is clearly my junior in age, in experience and just worldly knowledge has rated me. What if my answers did not fit into their preconceived mold, to theri scrupted questions. I really wanted to say..... OK sweetheart, please let me spek to your manager but I knew better and tried to find the repsonses I now they were l9ooking for. I could tell that the young lady was reading a script and tring to enter my answers into a database....I almost think that she was even reading something else. So, what do I do if this very junior person who has my future in their hand deciedes that we didn't hit it off?

Great article. As a job seeker, I've also run into interviews like those above. Sometimes I've even had questions that required mainly yes/no answers and though these questions may be easy, it doesn't allow for any depth or chance to shine. That is, unless, as the article says, one takes control and is specific. These "easy" interviews may take some hard work after all.
