While I do not divulge my salary history, I am not afraid to tell them what salary I want: I will offer it in "relative"terms, or use a range depending on job requirements (like travel, hours, benefits, etc.). Also, my rule is that if I enjoy my current company or job, it is going to cost this new employer more to get me to leave. Generally, that means 15-20%. So, if I currently make $100k, then I would be seeking $115-125k. Anything less and I am not interested (but, again, only if I really like my current employer).

There is no rule stating you cannot raise your salary request, too! If you tell the potential new employer you are seeking $115-125k and, through the course of all the negotiations they offer you some number (be it in the range, or not) you can still ask for more $$$ based upon your new understanding of the job requirements. And that's how you justify it - b/c you thought the job tasks would be "this" but they actually are "that".

I am second interviewing for a management position for golden spoon and I found out this position is a two store management position which is double the duty and involves driving back and forth. They said they haven't made a decision on salary so what exactly is my ball park range I have here? I can't find alot of info on average salary as a double manager for golden spoon online. Any ideas

Great suggestions here, Alison -- thank you.

The line that jumped off the page for me ...

"It would be a lot more logical for employers to just tell job-seekers what they intend to pay, rather than playing coy and pushing candidates to throw out a number first, right?" Agreed!

Salaries vary considerably from state to state, county to county, city to city. And some positions aren't clearly defined enough to research a salary. A job "title" oftentimes just scratches the surface of what the actual job description and ultimate duties will entail.

I'm currently seeking a position as a (virtual) social media manager. I'm finding it a gargantuan challenge to determine what I should charge for my services. Here in Southern California, I've seen a range from $25/hr to $77/hr. Is that insane, or what?! How do you even know where to begin with a range that broad?

Thoroughly enjoyed your post!

Robert Half is a great resource for accounting salaries! (seconding Mark W). They break it down by firm size, location nd years of experience.

Lucy,

You may need to explpore how guidestar website can be navigated as a free member. I am a free member and find that you can research non-profits by clicing on the Review a charity tab located on the same bar area where you login in.

Hope this helps

Lucy, the info I referenced in the article is indeed free, although you have to do their free registration. I've researched a bunch of nonprofits there and have never had to pay, although as you said, it's possible that the one you're looking at just doesn't have much info associated with it!

Actually, I did register for the site, but it still did not have any information other than links to register for the premium service. But as I said, I did not look at others so I may have commented unfairly.

Actually, I did register and it still did not have any information. Just more links to pay for the premium service. But as I said, it may have been the one I was looking at in particular.
