Choose references that can speak to you skills and are excited to do. The difference in getting a job or not could be the tone of your reference. Make sure yours are not lukewarm or even negative... you can get your references checked prior to using them, and I recommend you do... by service like www.allisontaylor.com or www.reference-check.com.

With verbal communication ranking #1 according to a National Association of Colleges and Employers report, consider asking a prof who knows about your communication ability to serve as a reference. If your future job requires interpersonal communication, group communication, and/or public speaking and you excelled in working with others in a particular course (or courses!), go to those profs and ask for them to vouch for you. They can give specific assignments or projects that you worked on where you excelled. If you took an online course or had a heavy online component to your face-to-face course, then your prof would know about your ability to communicate with others online--another huge benefit.
