I am currently a Marketing Student at CSU Sacramento and after going to a few seminars on the benefits of social media I created my profile on LinkedIn. It is still not complete and it could definitely use some fine-tuning, but since I started networking on the site I've been introduced to multiple connections who have helped me secure interviews with companies in the Sacramento region. Not only does LinkedIn allow students to network with potential employers, but they can also network, share thoughts and ideas, and get advice from other students or people who are likely to share their connections and expand their networks. It's a great professional tool that is incredibly user-friendly and there is no reason not to have a LinkedIn account!

Should join LinkedIn to build up professional networks and find employment opportunities that match their unique qualifications. At first, I was skeptical about it. My mentor, during grad school, got me to signed up and on LinkedIn. Really at first, I thought this is just another digital product (social networking tool) that I do not need. In all honest, after I started working with it, I do recommend it to people all the time. I am starting to make more and more connections every day.

Great reminder about this important professional networking tool! Once a student is finished in a prof's class or graduates, it's okay and much more acceptable to connect via LinkedIn, rather than Facebook. You never know when you might need a prof to attest to what you did in his/her class and doing a recommendation on LinkedIn is easy. Ellen Bremen, M.A. @chattyprof http://chattyprof.blogspot.com
